"The Simplex is an early camera for 35 mm film, made by the Multi-Speed Shutter Company, a maker of shutters and cine projectors in New York. An example was offered for sale (but not sold) at Westlicht together with advertisements from 1914; the auctioneer's notes describe the Simplex as the first production camera for 24x36mm exposures on 35mm film. The example shown at Westlicht has a Bausch and Lomb 50 mm f/3.5 Tessar with helical focusing, and a Compound shutter. Notes on the camera at Cameraquest state that there were four distinct models: Only twenty-seven copies of the camera were…"
